Field Notes

Onboarding traders without breaking naming rules

18 May 2026

New traders want to be helpful. Helpful people invent labels. Invented labels split exposure across phantom counterparties.

Give them a list, not a blank field

Share the approved counterparty names on day one. If a new market maker appears, the rule is “ask ops before creating a name,” not “type something close.”

Walk one real morning together

A slide deck rarely sticks. Sit through one morning exposure check with the new hire watching Crypto Portfolio Desktop and the ops owner narrating why a leg is still pending.

Keep the playbook short

One page: naming, who to ping for settlement, and where thresholds live. Long manuals gather dust beside the coffee machine.

When to book formal onboarding

If you are adding more than one trader, or opening a satellite desk, a structured Broker Desk Onboarding workshop is cheaper than a month of unclean exposure totals.
